Importance Of Training A Teacher
It is said that “a teacher takes a hand, opens a mind and touches a heart”.
As said by our beloved President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam in his famous speech to UN general assembly,
‘Where there is righteousness in the heart
There is beauty in the character.
When there is beauty in the character,
There is harmony in the home.
When there is harmony in the home,
There is order in the nation.
When there is order in the nation,
There is peace in the world.’
Therefore it becomes very important to see that our teachers are someone who has a holistic personality as well as the desired level of expertise in the field they are. There is the various test conducted in our country where these teachers are graded on the basis of the performance in these examinations. These examinations pertain to the govt. institutions and therefore in private schools and other govt. institutes the recruitment is done more or less on an informal basis. Although there is a check for knowledge there is no common platform for these teachers to prove their mettle.
Another area which is not given much importance in our country is the role of educational psychology. It is when the teacher understands the behavior pattern of the students then only he will be able to make the students interested in a subject. The study of the problem of children, their behavioral patterns and their adjustment according to the group requirement is also important. Also, there should be a periodic assessment for teachers which should be fair without any discrepancies as some subjects have a dynamic component. E.g. Governance, biotechnology.
Lastly, a teacher is a like a candle which lights the path of the student by burning itself. Therefore it also sometimes said that teacher is profession requiring optimism.
